Colorimetry

The colorimetry test takes about an hour and with the aid of the Intuitive Colorimeter uses many different colour combinations and depths of colour to create a specific tint for the patient.
Coloured lenses have been found beneficial for people with dyslexia, migraine, photosensitive epilepsy
as well as those suffering from visual stress, symptoms of which include;
- Movement of print
- Blurring of print
- Letters changing shape/size
- Patterns appearing within print
- Illusions of colour
- Rapid tiring
- Headache or eyestrain
It is necessary to have a full eye examination prior to being assessed as this can often reveal other previously undiagnosed visual problems. If you suspect someone may have a problem we recommend you contact our Saffron Walden practice where one of our Dispensing Opticians can advise you further.
Coloured Overlays
- Often used as a precursor to colorimetry.
- There is evidence to suggest that some people with dyslexia and/or specific learning difficulties find it easier to read more fluently with the aid of a coloured overlay.
- Coloured overlays are transparent coloured plastic sheets that can be placed over a page in a book. They work by reducing the perceptual distortions of text (some patients say the words go fuzzy or jump about).
- The overlays are available in different colours and patients can be assessed to find the colour most suitable for their visual symptoms.
- If after a period of time the patient receives a continued benefit from their overlay, spectacles can be made with lenses of the same colour.
